For the ones who know me: Hi! It’s good to see you here!
For the ones who don’t know me: Hi! Nice to meet you! I’m Juliana Haygert, New Adult author, co-founder of NA Alley, and the one who “lit the match” that ignited the Stamford Authors Event idea. Now, let me tell you how I lit that match …
I’ve always seen authors and writers get together for write-ins or writer retreats and I so wanted to go to one, but I didn’t know any author who lived close to me. A couple of months ago, I found out Laura Howard lived sorta close to me. I tweeted her, saying we would have to schedule a day to get together and write, even if we had to drive over two hours to meet half-way. Unfortunately, we ended up too busy and never spoke of it again … (Hey, Laura, I’m looking at you. When do you want to meet?!)
A month ago or so, I found out three author-friends of mine will meet and have a signing together. I tweeted them saying I was jealous of them. They tweeted back saying I could come if I wanted too (it’s in Illinois and I’m in Connecticut – yeah, right!), so I tweeted back teasing I would do one around here with Laura.
Next thing I know, Laura messages me on Facebook and we start talking about it. Ten minutes later, our Facebook group was created. Within one hour, we had about a dozen authors on our group!
As excited as I was (still am!), I couldn’t help much—I was moving that weekend to a new town and, well, moving can be frustrating and exhausting. Then, the internet company came here and said they couldn’t just connect our internet—they had to bring in a construction team to install some stuff on our streets … WHAT?! To say I was in shock is an understatement.
Well, that was April 12th and, with some other complications with the internet company, their schedules and irresponsibility, I still don’t have internet here … which makes participating and organizing the event difficult. And it saddens me, because I really wanted to do more … and I will once I get internet back lol
I confess I do love when Laura mentions the event was my idea (*wink wink*) but I know it is her hard work that moved it forward. Laura stepped in the moment I suggested the idea and she’s doing an incredible job. Our event will be a total success because of her (And Jena! And Beth Michelle! And all authors! And everyone who attends! lol) … you get my point.
Guys, this event will rock! I can’t wait to meet you all there ; )
